Born in Imizu, Toyama, Japan in 1963, Satoshi Hara is now based in Yokohama. Over decades of performance he has become one of Japan’s most respected banjo players — equally at home in bluegrass, folk and traditional repertoire. 1963年、富山県射水市生まれ。現在は横浜を拠点に活動しています。長年にわたる演奏活動を通じて、日本でもっとも信頼されるバンジョー奏者の一人となり、ブルーグラス、フォーク、トラディショナルのいずれにも深く通じています。
His work rests on three pillars — performance, teaching (now in its 46th year), and the promotion of the banjo’s history. He founded the Yokohama Banjo Festival in 2004 and researches the very first Western popular music heard in Japan, from the minstrel and parlor styles through to bluegrass. 活動は、演奏・指導（指導歴46年）・歴史普及という3本柱に支えられています。2004年に横濱バンジョー祭りを創設し、ミンストレルやパーラー、そしてブルーグラスへと連なる、日本で最初に響いた西洋ポピュラー音楽の研究にも取り組んでいます。

My work moves between the bluegrass I love, the older minstrel repertoire I have studied, and the new settings of theatre, film and collaboration. Wherever it travels, I want the banjo to sound honest, warm and alive. 愛するブルーグラス、研究を続けてきた古いミンストレルのレパートリー、そして演劇・映画・共演という新しい場のあいだを行き来する——どこへ向かうときも、バンジョーが正直に、温かく、生き生きと響くことを願っています。

Lonesome Strings & Banjo Clubロンサム・ストリングスとバンジョークラブ
Forms two more bands, and directs the banjo for the stage “The Grapes of Wrath,” winner of the Agency for Cultural Affairs Arts Festival Grand Prize.さらに2つのバンドを結成。演劇『怒りの葡萄』（文化庁芸術祭大賞受賞）で演奏指導を担当。
Founds the Yokohama Banjo Festival横濱バンジョー祭りを創設
Marking 150 years since Perry’s Black Ships; the same year, performs at the Japan–US 150th Anniversary ceremony before Prime Minister Koizumi.ペリー黒船来航150年を記念して開始。同年、日米交流150年記念式典で小泉首相ほか列席のもと記念演奏。
Banjo direction for “TOKYO!”映画『TOKYO!』で演奏指導
Coaches the banjo for Michel Gondry’s Cannes red-carpet short film.ミシェル・ゴンドリー監督、カンヌ・レッドカーペット作品の短編で演奏指導。
